Spotted during testing in Germany and Spain, the upcoming 2027 BMW X5 is generating a lot of buzz. Codenamed G65, the new model draws inspiration from BMW’s Vision Neue Klasse design philosophy, blending modern innovation with a nod to classic BMW models of the 1970s and 80s.
Bold New Look: Design Inspired by the Vision Neue Klasse Concept
The 2027 X5’s exterior is defined by crisper, cleaner lines and a modern aesthetic. The updated twin-kidney grille is flanked by sleek, elongated headlights, while horizontal daytime running lights (DRLs) add a bold touch. The contoured hood with a central recess enhances the SUV’s muscular stance, and flush door handles—similar to those on the Ford Mustang Mach-E—are seamlessly integrated into the body.

DC fast charging will allow the iX5 to recharge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes, making it ideal for long-distance travel.
Rear-wheel drive will likely come standard on lower-powered variants, with xDrive all-wheel drive available for higher-powered models, as is typical with BMW’s performance-oriented SUVs.
The Future X5 M: Powerhouse Performance
For those seeking ultimate performance, BMW will introduce a high-performance X5 M variant, featuring the brand’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. This electrified beast will deliver up to 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, positioning it as one of the most powerful SUVs on the market.
With the hybrid system in place, the new X5 M will likely weigh more than its predecessor, which already tipped the scales at 5,455 pounds. However, the added weight will be balanced by electrification, ensuring blistering speed and unrivaled performance.
Competitive Landscape and Expected Launch
The 2027 BMW X5 won’t be entering the market alone. It faces stiff competition from rivals like the Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Range Rover Sport, and Porsche Cayenne. BMW is clearly positioning the X5 to remain a top contender in the luxury SUV segment.
