Aerfal Automotive Revives the Porsche 904 Spirit with a Modern Restomod Masterpiece

Dutch startup Aerfal Automotive is breathing new life into one of the most iconic sports cars ever built — the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS. Known for its sculpted bodywork and motorsport pedigree, the 904 was the perfect fusion of race engineering and art in motion. Now, 60 years later, Aerfal wants to resurrect this legend as a cutting-edge restomod that blends the soul of the 1960s with the technology of today.

A Modern Homage to a Motorsport Legend

The reborn machine is the brainchild of Alan Derosier, the French designer behind acclaimed concepts like the Kiska APG-1 supercar and Marc Philipp Gemballa’s Marsien. Working alongside CGI artist Antoine Brigot — known for his work with Avatr — Derosier has sculpted a digital reimagination that pays tribute to the 904’s timeless proportions while introducing a sharper, more modern edge.

Aerfal’s restomod features a meticulously crafted exterior with redesigned cooling intakes, LED lighting, and vintage-style alloy wheels that remain faithful to the spirit of the original racer. The unique roof-integrated door system enhances accessibility and reinforces the car’s futuristic yet nostalgic feel.

Inside, simplicity reigns supreme — a driver-focused cabin with titanium accents, hand-stitched leather, and analogue-style dials recreates the magic of Porsche’s golden age.

Reinventing the 914 Platform

Since only 106 original Porsche 904s were built between 1964 and 1965, sourcing authentic chassis parts is nearly impossible. Instead, Aerfal will use the Porsche 914 platform — a mid-engined layout co-developed with Volkswagen and produced in nearly 119,000 units between 1969 and 1974.

However, this project goes far beyond a simple rebody. Founder Daniel Robledo explained to Motor1 that Aerfal’s engineers have reinforced the 914’s frame and integrated components from modern partners like Brembo, BBS, and Michelin, ensuring that the reborn sports car delivers both authentic handling and contemporary reliability.

The Rebirth of the Flat-Eight

Underneath the sculpted rear deck lies the project’s beating heart — a naturally aspirated, air-cooled 4.0-liter flat-eight engine. This modern interpretation of the legendary powerplant aims to produce around 400 horsepower, doubling the output of the original 2.0-liter unit.

“This project isn’t about chasing numbers,” Aerfal explains. “It’s about crafting an engine that breathes emotion — one that sings with the mechanical purity of Porsche’s racing heritage.”

What’s Next for Aerfal’s 904 Revival?

Currently, the reborn Aerfal 904 exists only as digital renderings, but a prototype is on the horizon. The company will begin accepting pre-orders soon, though pricing, production limits, and delivery schedules remain undisclosed.

Still, anticipation is building fast. With its perfect balance of retro elegance and modern performance, the Aerfal 904 restomod could become one of the most desirable reinterpretations of a Porsche classic ever conceived — a bridge between the analog past and the digital future of driving.
