Audi Concept C Roadster Unveiled: A Bold New Design Language for the Future of Audi

Audi has officially lifted the covers on the Concept C roadster, just ahead of its world debut at the Munich Motor Show. This striking hardtop roadster not only showcases the brand’s all-new design language but also previews a production model expected to share its underpinnings with the next-generation Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman.

A Radical New “Audi Brand Face”

Looking bold, clean, and minimalist, the Concept C pays homage to the legendary Auto Union Type C racer while introducing a fresh identity for future Audi models. At the front, the roadster wears a rectangular, portrait-oriented grille, a radical departure from Audi’s traditional single-frame design.

This grille is flanked by sculpted air curtains and slender four-element headlights. Audi confirmed that this lighting signature will become a new hallmark, instantly recognizable by day or night across its upcoming lineup.

Streamlined Proportions and Retractable Roof

The side profile reveals taut surfaces, sharp body lines, and a muscular shoulder line that runs seamlessly across the vehicle. Aerodynamic wheels and sporty side skirts further enhance its athletic look. However, the real star is the retractable hardtop, the first ever used on an Audi roadster.

This innovative roof mechanism, split into two sections, uses a rear hatch that opens before the roof panels slide backward. The process is reminiscent of the Porsche 911 Targa, highlighting Audi’s close design ties with Porsche. The system combines the security and styling of a coupe with the open-air freedom of a convertible.

At the rear, the design remains clean and futuristic with a wide diffuser, minimal detailing, and four-element taillights. Interestingly, Audi replaces the traditional rear window with a camera system, signaling its vision for future roadsters.

A Minimalist, Tech-Forward Interior

Inside, the Concept C continues its industrial yet futuristic theme. The cabin features a reimagined steering wheel, a fully digital instrument cluster, and Audi’s “shy tech” philosophy—technology that disappears when not needed.

The 10.4-inch infotainment display folds neatly out of sight to reduce distractions, while digital climate controls, anodized aluminum details, and ambient lighting complete the futuristic feel. Audi has also moved away from leather, opting instead for premium cloth upholstery, aligning with its sustainability goals.

From Concept to Production

While technically a concept, Audi confirmed that the Concept C is a concrete preview of a production vehicle scheduled to arrive in 2027. Built at the Böllinger Höfe plant, the model will carry much of this design into production, serving as the new flagship of Audi’s roadster lineup.

Beyond this single model, the Concept C’s design language will influence upcoming Audi vehicles across multiple segments. The brand also announced plans for a new entry-level EV in 2025, followed by high-performance models in 2026, which will likely include the next-generation S6 and RS6 Avant.

Conclusion

The Audi Concept C is more than just a design study—it’s a bold statement of Audi’s future direction. With its dramatic looks, retractable hardtop, minimalist interior, and forward-thinking technology, it embodies Audi’s commitment to blending performance, design, and innovation. As the production version approaches, it will be fascinating to see how closely Audi stays true to this daring vision.
