BMW i3 (2026): The 3 Series goes full electric, and it’s a game changer

The iconic 3 Series is entering a whole new era. In 2026, BMW flips the script by introducing the all-new BMW i3, a fully electric sedan built on the brand’s futuristic Neue Klasse platform.
And yes, while petrol and hybrid versions will still come later, this i3 is clearly the headline act.
Built for the future (Literally)

This new i3 shares its DNA with the upcoming iX3, meaning cutting-edge tech is everywhere. The biggest highlight? An 800V architecture capable of ultra-fast charging—up to 400 kW.
Range is just as impressive. With a massive 108 kWh battery, the i3 could potentially push close to 900 km of range (WLTP), putting it among the longest-range EVs ever made.
Serious power under the hood
At launch, the i3 arrives in a single version: the 50 xDrive.

- Dual motors
- 469 hp
- 645 Nm of torque
In short: this is not just a commuter—it’s a performance sedan. BMW also tweaked the suspension for more comfort while keeping that signature driving feel alive. Optional adaptive M suspension is available for those who want extra sharpness.
A radical new design
Forget the old i3 city car—this is something completely different.
Inspired by the Neue Klasse concept, the new i3 features:
- A sleek, futuristic silhouette
- A closed grille with illuminated kidney design
- Slim LED lighting front and rear
- Up to 21-inch wheels
It’s bigger too, now measuring 4.76 meters long, giving it real road presence.

Interior = Tech Overload
Inside, it’s straight out of the future.
The standout feature is BMW’s “Panoramic Vision” display—a full-width screen at the base of the windshield showing key driving info at all times. Add to that:
- A fast, intuitive infotainment system
- A unique vertical-spoke steering wheel
- Customizable digital interfaces
It’s minimalist, high-tech, and very different from traditional BMW interiors.
Space & Practicality
Front passengers get plenty of space and comfort. At the rear, it’s slightly tighter due to the battery floor, but still decent thanks to a long wheelbase.
A turning point for the 3 Series
This new i3 isn’t just another model, it’s a complete reinvention. With electric power, bold design, and next-gen tech, BMW is clearly redefining what the 3 Series stands for.

The real question now: are drivers ready for this electric revolution?
