BMW iX Facelift 2025: More Power, Longer Range, and a Glimpse of Neue Klasse Design

BMW’s flagship electric SUV, the BMW iX, is receiving a mid-cycle facelift for 2025. This update not only refines its bold design but also enhances technical specifications to ensure the iX remains ahead in the increasingly competitive premium EV segment. The launch of the restyled iX is scheduled for spring 2025, with a focus on key markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

When first unveiled in 2020 and later introduced as a production model in 2021, the BMW iX shocked the automotive world with its futuristic aesthetics inspired by the Vision iNext Concept (2018). It quickly established itself as both a design statement and a technological laboratory for BMW. Now, four years into its journey, the facelift ensures the iX continues to set benchmarks in luxury, electrification, and innovation.

BMW iX 2025: New Lineup and Powertrain Options

The refreshed iX introduces a new range structure: xDrive45, xDrive60, and M70 xDrive, replacing the previous 40, 50, and M60 versions.

  • BMW iX xDrive45 – Now develops 408 hp (+82 hp vs iX40) and 700 Nm of torque, enabling 0–100 km/h in 5.1 seconds with a top speed of 200 km/h. Range: 490–602 km WLTP.
  • BMW iX xDrive60 – Boosted to 544 hp (+21 hp) and 765 Nm, sprinting to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. Range: 563–701 km WLTP, the highest in the lineup.
  • BMW iX M70 xDrive – The new flagship, producing 659 hp (+40 hp vs iX M60) and a staggering 1,100 Nm. 0–100 km/h drops to 3.5 seconds, while top speed remains electronically limited to 250 km/h. Range: 521–600 km WLTP.

Battery, Charging, and Efficiency Upgrades

A major highlight of the facelift lies beneath the surface: new-generation battery cells with up to 30% better energy density.

  • xDrive45: 94.8 kWh, charging up to 175 kW DC.
  • xDrive60: 109.1 kWh, charging up to 195 kW DC.
  • M70 xDrive: 108.9 kWh, charging up to 195 kW DC.

All versions support 22 kW AC charging, ensuring faster home and workplace charging. According to BMW, these improvements extend driving range by up to 60 km compared to the outgoing model, with the xDrive60 offering up to 701 km WLTP — enough to rival Tesla’s long-range offerings and Mercedes’ EQS SUV.

Exterior Design: Neue Klasse Influence

The facelift brings a sharper aesthetic language, hinting at the upcoming BMW Neue Klasse models arriving from 2025 onwards.

  • Front fascia: New slimmer headlights with a signature light design, a revised bumper with vertical air intakes, and a redesigned grille featuring diagonal stripes.
  • Side profile: The M Sport package becomes standard on the M70, which now rides on 23-inch wheels for a more commanding stance.
  • Rear design: Subtle tweaks with re-shaped reflectors and tail-lights that adopt a deeper red hue for a sportier, more premium appearance.

This design refresh connects the iX more closely with BMW’s upcoming next-generation EV lineup, while retaining its distinct futuristic identity.

Interior: Subtle Updates, More Tech

Inside, BMW has chosen evolution over revolution. The dual curved display — a hallmark of the iX since launch — remains. Instead, improvements focus on digital services and connectivity.

  • BMW Operating System 8.5 with more intuitive navigation and menus.
  • Expanded in-car entertainment: video streaming, gaming functions, and integrated apps, directly challenging Tesla’s infotainment ecosystem.
  • Enhanced 5G connectivity for seamless over-the-air updates and streaming.
  • Digital key sharing via smartphone, with customizable access rights for family members or colleagues.

The cabin remains a technology hub for luxury EV buyers, offering both futuristic innovation and long-distance comfort.

Conclusion: BMW iX Stays Ahead in 2025

With more power, better efficiency, extended range, and modernized design, the facelifted BMW iX ensures that BMW’s flagship EV continues to lead the premium electric SUV category. The blend of Neue Klasse-inspired styling, cutting-edge battery tech, and luxury features positions the iX as one of the most compelling full-size electric SUVs available in 2025.
