BMW to Launch Over 40 Digitally Upgraded Models by 2027: The Neue Klasse Tech Revolution

A major digital revolution is set to redefine the future of BMW. By the end of 2027, the German automaker will have launched or updated more than 40 vehicles, all equipped with cutting-edge computing systems, advanced infotainment, OTA (over-the-air) updates, and a groundbreaking Panoramic iDrive interface.

This shift marks the full arrival of BMW’s much-anticipated Neue Klasse era, starting with the second-generation BMW iX3. Shortly after, the spotlight will turn to the all-electric BMW i3, the future 3-Series EV. Beyond introducing a fresh design language, Neue Klasse represents what BMW calls a “quantum leap” in digital technology and customer experience.

A New Digital Horizon for BMW

Mike Reichelt, head of BMW’s Neue Klasse program, highlighted the scope of this transformation in an interview with Autocar.

“Every technology, everything on the iX3 is all-new. We will roll out this technology across the whole portfolio, and fast. We have never done this before, but it is necessary when you look at the computing power and the user interface. There have been so many big jumps.”

BMW’s decision to accelerate digital integration is strategic. According to Reichelt, if the brand only reserved these innovations for new generations, the existing lineup would instantly feel outdated. Instead, BMW aims to bridge the gap by applying Neue Klasse’s AI-powered driving assistance, cloud-based connectivity, and immersive infotainment across its entire range.

More Than a Facelift: Redefining the Update Cycle

Traditionally, a BMW receives a mid-life facelift every 7 to 9 years, mainly focused on design tweaks and minor feature enhancements. But this era is over. Starting in 2025, BMW’s updates will go far beyond aesthetics.

Reichelt explained:

“Traditionally we’ve had one mid-life update in a product cycle, mostly design but a bit digital too. Today, every year we’re updating the digital side, so it’s really important to get that into the car. We won’t change the body structure, but we will integrate the most relevant aspects of Neue Klasse: the design language, Panoramic iDrive, ADAS, all the digital things.”

This means even facelifted BMW models will feel like new-generation vehicles, integrating next-gen driver assistance (ADAS), ultra-responsive user interfaces, and personalized AI-powered experiences.

Why This Matters for the Future of BMW

The move comes at a time when the global premium EV market is booming. Brands like Tesla, Mercedes-Benz EQ, and Audi e-tron are racing to deliver superior digital ecosystems. BMW’s Neue Klasse strategy ensures it doesn’t just compete—it redefines expectations.

By 2027, BMW owners can expect:

  • Seamless OTA software updates, similar to Tesla’s model.
  • Panoramic iDrive displays for immersive in-car experiences.
  • Smarter ADAS systems powered by next-gen computing.
  • A design language that bridges luxury with futuristic minimalism.

BMW’s Neue Klasse is not just a new lineup—it’s a digital renaissance that will transform over 40 models into rolling smart devices.
