Denza Z: BYD’s Upcoming Electric Sports Car Targets Porsche at the Nürburgring

BYD’s luxury sub-brand Denza is turning heads once again. After redefining premium electric mobility in China, Denza is now gunning for the world’s most respected sports cars — with its all-new model, the Denza Z, recently caught testing at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife.
This sleek two-door electric coupe aims to rival European heavyweights like the Porsche 718 Electric, Porsche 911, and BMW M4, proving that China’s EV performance revolution is only just beginning.
A New Era for Denza : Performance Meets Prestige
Backed by BYD’s cutting-edge battery technology, the Denza Z marks a bold step into the high-performance EV segment. According to Stella Li, BYD’s vice president, Denza’s vehicles are “ten times better than Porsche and BMW” — a bold statement that will soon face its ultimate test on the track.
The prototype seen on the Nürburgring appears nearly identical to the Denza Z Concept unveiled earlier this year. Its design language exudes aggression and aerodynamic precision, combining sleek proportions with bold details that make it instantly recognizable.
Design Highlights : Form Meets Function
The front fascia of the Denza Z features large air intakes, LED headlights, and an aerodynamic splitter, while the side profile boasts Porsche-inspired louvers and a low, sculpted roofline. At the rear, the massive fixed wing and aggressive diffuser hint at serious track potential.
Wrapped in GitiSport GTR3 semi-slick tires — 275/35 R20 at the front and 325/30 R20 at the rear — the car clearly means business. These tires are usually reserved for top-tier track machines, reinforcing Denza’s performance ambitions.
Powertrain and Technology : Rumored 900+ Horsepower
Although Denza hasn’t revealed full specs, Chinese media suggest the Z could share its triple-motor configuration with the Denza Z9 GT, producing up to 952 horsepower. If accurate, the sports car could reach 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in just under 3 seconds — putting it in the same league as the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT or Tesla Model S Plaid.
This staggering power will be complemented by advanced suspension technology, including double-wishbone geometry and magnetorheological dampers capable of adapting every 10 milliseconds. Such responsiveness is designed for both comfort and precision on challenging circuits like the Nürburgring.
Interior : Digital, Premium, and Driver-Focused
Inside, the Denza Z promises a tech-forward cockpit reminiscent of the concept version. Expect a digital instrument cluster, large infotainment touchscreen, and a dedicated passenger display, surrounded by Alcantara, carbon fiber, and Nappa leather finishes.
A Serious Contender for Europe’s Finest
With Denza’s growing presence across Europe and BYD’s global expansion plans, it’s only a matter of time before the Z takes on brands like Porsche, Audi, and BMW head-to-head. The combination of power, technology, and design could redefine what a “Chinese performance car” really means on the world stage.
