Land Rover has launched a special edition of its iconic Defender SUV, inspired by the vibrant Mediterranean island of Ibiza, Spain. These limited-edition models, named the Defender Eivissa Sunrise and Noontide, pay homage to Ibiza’s lively atmosphere and serene landscapes. Only six units will be produced, split evenly between the two configurations, making them an exclusive offering for car enthusiasts.
What is Eivissa?
The term “Eivissa” is the Catalan name for Ibiza, a popular tourist destination off the coast of Spain known for its world-famous nightlife, beautiful beaches, and strong connection to nature. These limited editions are being unveiled at the Destination Defender Ibiza event, where fans can get an up-close look and even place orders for the highly exclusive models. This event, running from September 13 to 29, includes off-road adventures, wellness sessions, and local culinary experiences, making it a fitting celebration for Land Rover enthusiasts.
Defender Eivissa Sunrise and Noontide: A Tribute to Ibiza’s Colors
The two versions of the Defender Eivissa Edition represent Ibiza’s natural beauty at different times of the day. The Defender 110 Eivissa Sunrise edition features a striking yellow exterior with gloss black accents, capturing the magic of the island’s sunrises after a long night of festivities. Meanwhile, the Defender 90 Noontide edition offers a light blue shade paired with white accents, reminiscent of Ibiza’s iconic whitewashed buildings against the Mediterranean Sea’s azure waters.
Both models sport special Eivissa badges and unique livery, though Land Rover has yet to reveal specific technical details about the trims or engines. The models, however, promise a high level of equipment and customization typical of Land Rover’s Defender lineup.
A Nod to Ibiza’s Ancient History
Land Rover’s decision to produce only six units has historical significance. Ibiza’s ancient name, “Iboshim,” was given by the Phoenicians in honor of Bess, a deity associated with protection, fertility, and domestic well-being. The god is also linked to the number six, a symbolic choice for this limited production run.
