Faraday Future’s challenges are no secret, yet the company has boldly announced plans for a new mainstream brand, Faraday X (FX). This venture aims to position itself as the “Toyota of the AIEV [Artificial Intelligence Electric Vehicle] era,” a lofty ambition that raises eyebrows among industry watchers.
The FX lineup will include two models: the FX 5 and FX 6. The FX 5 is projected to be priced between $20,000 and $30,000, while the FX 6 will range from $30,000 to $50,000. Both models are set to offer electric and range-extended powertrains, appealing to a wider audience seeking affordable electric options.
Production is tentatively scheduled to begin by the end of 2025, but this timeline hinges on securing the necessary funding. Given the dismal sales of the FF 91 and its troubled development history, optimism may be in short supply. However, Faraday Future has established partnerships with four Chinese OEMs, having entered into two strategic agreements and two memoranda of understanding. These alliances aim to advance the Range Extended AIEV initiative in the U.S. market.
The FX 5 is described as a “large-space sporty AIEV,” designed for “every hardworking person,” while the FX 6 is branded as an “extra-large, Luxury AIEV for Family.” The emphasis on practicality and family-oriented features could attract a demographic that values both functionality and innovation.
Despite these ambitious plans, industry skepticism remains high. The company has even announced an FX logo design competition and is considering changing its stock symbol from FFIE to FFAI to reflect this new direction. Interestingly, the term AI appears more than 50 times in their recent press releases, but this has not quelled investor concerns, as the stock has fallen by over 8% in recent days.
