The First High-Performance EV From Genesis: Meet the New GV60 Magma

Hyundai Motor Group is gearing up for one of its most ambitious product offensives to date. While Hyundai itself prepares to launch new N performance models and even a rugged body-on-frame pickup truck with a Toyota 4Runner rival, it’s the luxury arm Genesis that is set to steal the spotlight. The brand has officially confirmed its first high-performance electric vehicle (EV): the Genesis GV60 Magma.

The GV60 Magma will mark the debut of the newly created Magma Division, Genesis’s dedicated performance sub-brand. Much like BMW’s M Division or Mercedes-AMG, Genesis aims to fuse luxury with extreme performance. This new EV will reportedly borrow hardware from the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and the Kia EV6 GT, pushing output to more than 600 horsepower. With dual-motor all-wheel drive and a focus on handling precision, the GV60 Magma is shaping up to be a true Porsche Taycan rival.

A New Identity for Genesis

Genesis has often been compared to Lexus in its role as Hyundai’s luxury counterpart. However, the GV60 Magma signals a shift toward a more sport-focused identity. Performance and emotional appeal are now central pillars of the brand’s future. Alongside road cars, Genesis is even preparing to enter endurance racing with the GMR-001 Le Mans Daytona hypercar, further solidifying its credibility on and off the track.

Could Genesis Really Hit 1,000 Horsepower?

During Hyundai’s Investor Day, CEO Jose Munoz revealed that Genesis is developing multiple electrified powertrains, with EVs expected to surpass 600 hp and potentially reach the staggering milestone of 1,000 hp. This could take the form of a hypercar-inspired EV, possibly influenced by the X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo concept, or a high-performance SUV to rival the Porsche Cayenne Electric and Macan Electric.

If achieved, a 1,000-hp Genesis EV would catapult the brand into hypercar territory while keeping its focus on luxury. In addition, Genesis confirmed that extended-range EVs are being designed to achieve over 1,000 km (621 miles) of driving range, while HEV (hybrid) models will offer more than 500 hp, bridging efficiency and performance.

The Road Ahead

The arrival of the GV60 Magma will not only launch Genesis’s performance era but also place the brand firmly on the map in the premium EV market. By combining luxury craftsmanship, cutting-edge technology, and track-inspired performance, Genesis is aiming to redefine what a luxury EV can deliver. For buyers seeking a balance of refinement and raw power, the GV60 Magma could be one of the most exciting electric debuts of the decade.
