KG Mobility Prepares New Mid-Size Pickup to Replace the Musso by 2026

The mid-size pickup market is hotter than ever, and automakers across the globe are racing to compete with benchmarks like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. Korea is stepping up its game with not just Kia’s all-new Tasman, but also KG Mobility — the automaker formerly known as SsangYong.

Following the debut of the Musso EV, KG Mobility is teasing another addition to its truck lineup. This new model, currently codenamed Q300, is expected to replace the Rexton Sports (known as the Musso internationally) while creating a new family of trucks under the “Musso” sub-brand, spanning electric, hybrid, and combustion powertrains.

A Rugged New Design Direction

First revealed in design sketches earlier this year, the Q300 has now been shown in teaser footage, highlighting its tougher, more muscular proportions.

  • Front End Styling: The headlights borrow cues from the Ford F-150 and BYD Shark, featuring sharp LED graphics. A Jeep-inspired illuminated five-slot grille takes center stage, paired with a chunky bumper and wide intake that reinforce its rugged stance.
  • Profile & Bed: Along the sides, the truck retains protective cladding with integrated amber indicators — reminiscent of the Musso EV — but a longer bed hints at increased practicality and payload capacity. The roofline, pillars, and roof rails appear closely related to the current Rexton Sports.
  • Rear End: Slim vertical LED taillights frame a sculpted tailgate embossed with KGM lettering, giving it a modern yet aggressive touch.

Expected Interior & Powertrains

While the interior hasn’t been revealed yet, expectations point to a digital cockpit, advanced connectivity features, and a five-seat cabin in a double-cab configuration. KG Mobility is likely to equip the Q300 with driver-assist technology to match global rivals.

The outgoing Rexton Sports/Musso has been on sale since 2018, with a facelift introduced in 2023. Built on the Rexton SUV’s ladder-frame architecture, it currently offers gasoline and diesel engines. The next-generation Q300 is expected to carry forward an updated version of this platform while adding hybrid powertrain options — a first for KGM trucks.

Global Ambitions and Market Launch

According to reports, the full reveal of the Q300 could take place within months, with a global market launch targeted for 2026. Beyond Korea, KGM aims to export the model to Europe, the UK, and Australia, positioning it directly against established names such as the:

  • Ford Ranger
  • Toyota Hilux
  • Mitsubishi L200 (Triton)
  • Nissan Navara
  • Isuzu D-Max
  • Mazda BT-50
  • Volkswagen Amarok
  • Kia Tasman
  • GWM Cannon
  • LDV/Maxus T60

With its combination of rugged styling, electrified options, and global positioning, the Q300 could finally help KG Mobility carve a bigger space in the fiercely competitive mid-size truck segment.
