Škoda Vision O: The Electric Octavia Wagon of the Future Revealed in Munich

A First Glimpse at the Octavia Electric Wagon Coming in 2028.

Back in spring 2023, Škoda teased us with abstract sketches of its electric future, raising more questions than answers. Now, at the Munich Mobility Show 2025, the brand has finally revealed the Vision O concept, offering a much clearer and more reassuring picture. This futuristic design study previews the arrival of the first fully electric Octavia Combi by 2028, a model built on an all-new electric platform.

For Škoda, the wagon is more than just a niche. With over 3 million Octavia Combi units sold since 1998 and 650,000 Superb Combi units since 2008, the Czech manufacturer has established itself as the leader in the estate-car market. While station wagons are declining in Western Europe, they remain highly popular in Eastern Europe, making the Octavia Electric Wagon a logical and strategic move.

Evolving the “Modern Solid” Design

The Vision O adopts Škoda’s “Modern Solid” design philosophy, first showcased on the Vision 7S concept in 2022. The concept’s silhouette is sleek and dynamic, with sharper lines and a sloping glasshouse that gives the wagon a more premium, athletic look. Suicide-style rear doors, while unlikely to make production, provide wide access to a clean, minimalist cabin.

Led by design chief Olivier Stefani, the Vision O’s styling blends practicality with boldness. The black floating roof, combined with unique C-pillar treatment, evokes memories of the Škoda Felicia Fun from the 1990s. The sharper front fascia and elegant T-shaped rear lights reinforce the futuristic look, positioning Škoda’s wagon as a forward-thinking alternative in the EV market.

A High-Tech SSP Platform Shared With VW and Audi

Underpinning the future production Octavia Electric will be the SSP platform, Volkswagen Group’s next-generation EV architecture. Shared with the upcoming Volkswagen Golf 9 (likely named ID.Golf) and the Audi A3 (5th generation), this platform will enable 800V fast charging technology, significantly reducing charging times.

Škoda Vision O interior with panoramic digital dashboard

Škoda highlights practicality right from the start, with the Vision O offering 650 liters of cargo space in its standard five-seat layout and up to 1,700 liters with the rear seats folded down. This is paired with innovative features such as Laura, Škoda’s virtual AI assistant, and advanced autonomous driving capabilities—a tech once thought to be fading, now making a comeback.

Inside: Inspired by BMW and Tesla

The interior of the Vision O is minimalist yet futuristic. A panoramic digital display stretches across the full width of the dashboard, reminiscent of BMW’s iDrive Panoramic interface introduced on the BMW iX3 EV. A large, vertical Tesla-style touchscreen completes the tech suite, while Škoda wisely retains physical controls on the steering wheel and center console for intuitive usability.

Clever practical touches—like a sliding drawer hidden in the dashboard, a removable cooler in the center console, and a 220V power socket—suggest that Škoda will continue to blend functionality with innovation in the production Octavia EV. These thoughtful additions will resonate with families and long-distance drivers, who value the everyday practicality that Škoda is known for.

Why the Octavia Electric Wagon Matters

The Octavia Electric Wagon 2028 is not just another EV. It is Škoda’s chance to redefine the family car segment with a model that merges efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and cargo versatility. By leaning on its heritage as Europe’s wagon leader, Škoda is positioning the Octavia Electric as a serious rival to the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer, Tesla Model 3 estate (if launched), and even upcoming Peugeot EV wagons.
