Tesla Model Y Facelift: A Bold New Look and Greater Presence
The refreshed Tesla Model Y has made its debut in China, showcasing a redesigned exterior and a length increase of nearly 5 cm, solidifying its status in the competitive electric SUV market.
Exterior design: Tesla’s dual identity
The new Model Y features sharper lines and a more angular front end, drawing inspiration from Tesla’s latest creations, such as the Cybertruck and Cybercab. Unlike the facelifted Model 3, which retains separate headlights, the Model Y adopts a cohesive front-light design.
- Front End: A futuristic, sharper design aligning with Tesla’s Cyber aesthetic.
- Rear End: A central light strip spans the width, echoing a popular trend seen in vehicles like the Porsche Macan EV.
With an extended length of 4.79 meters, the Model Y now borders on the larger SUV segment. Notable changes include a small rear spoiler, featured on the Chinese model, which may also become standard in Europe. New paint options and wheel designs are expected as well.
Minimalist yet ergonomic interior
Tesla’s signature minimalist approach remains intact in the refreshed Model Y:
- Central Display: A large touchscreen serves as the hub for all controls, including the gear selector.
- Physical Controls: Unlike the facelifted Model 3, the turn signal stalks seem to remain, enhancing user ergonomics.
The 7-seat option, introduced recently, is carried forward. The increased length slightly improves accessibility to the third row.
Variants and performance : Two options for China
In China, Tesla has introduced two versions of the facelifted Model Y with region-specific configurations:
- RWD Version:
- 300 hp
- 62.5 kWh LFP battery supplied by CATL
- Aimed at urban and economical use
- AWD Version:
- 450 hp
- 78.4 kWh NMC battery supplied by LG
- Enhanced performance and range
These specifications apply to models manufactured in Tesla’s Shanghai factory. European versions, produced in Germany, may have different configurations, as Tesla often adjusts its models to suit regional markets.
A stronger competitor in the EV Market
With its updated design, robust performance, and improved interior space, the refreshed Tesla Model Y aims to reinforce its dominance in the electric SUV segment. It remains to be seen how the features introduced in China will translate to the European market.
Further details and specifications for the European market are expected in Tesla France’s upcoming official announcement.
