Toyota Aqua 2025 Facelift: Sharper Design, Upgraded Tech, and Modellista Enhancements

The Toyota Aqua, known internationally in its previous generation as the Prius C, has just received a mid-cycle facelift in Japan. While its predecessor was sold in overseas markets like North America, this second-generation Aqua, launched in 2021, remains a Japan-exclusive hybrid hatchback. Built on the TNGA-B platform, the Aqua continues Toyota’s strategy of offering efficient, compact, and stylish self-charging hybrids, now with a sharper look and improved tech.

A New Look with Toyota’s Hammerhead Face

The most striking change is the redesigned front fascia, now adopting Toyota’s signature hammerhead design language. Slimmer headlights connect via a full-width LED light bar, paired with a minimalist upper grille and a smaller, Prius-inspired lower intake. These details give the Aqua a more modern, confident road presence.

At the rear, Toyota has added a black trim piece across the tailgate, integrating a smaller Toyota emblem and what appears to be a subtle secondary rear spoiler. Side mirrors have also been updated for a sleeker appearance.

Although Toyota hasn’t released images of the Aqua GR Sport trim, enthusiasts can expect a sportier body kit when it debuts.

Interior : Digital Tech and Added Safety

Inside, the facelift brings a new 7-inch digital instrument cluster standard across all trims, paired with an infotainment screen available in either 8-inch or 10.5-inch configurations. A new electronic parking brake with auto hold enhances convenience, while safety takes a leap forward thanks to the integration of Toyota Safety Sense 3.0—the latest suite of advanced driver assistance systems.

Borrowing tech from Toyota’s flagship Century SUV, the Aqua now offers a “Smooth Stop Control” function, ensuring more refined braking at low speeds.

Powertrain : Reliable Hybrid Efficiency

Under the hood, the facelifted Aqua retains its 1.5-liter gasoline engine paired with two electric motors and a bipolar nickel-metal hydride battery pack. Customers can choose between FWD and the E-Four AWD system, making the Aqua a versatile option for different driving needs.

Performance remains focused on fuel efficiency and smooth urban driving, with the hybrid setup continuing to deliver the reliability and practicality that Aqua (and Prius C) owners have come to expect.

Pricing and Availability

The updated Toyota Aqua 2025 is already on sale in Japan. Prices start at ¥2,486,000 ($16,900) for the entry-level X FWD trim and rise to ¥3,022,800 ($20,600) for the fully loaded Z grade with AWD.

Modellista Customization Options

For buyers wanting a sportier look, Modellista offers an official aftermarket bodykit for the Aqua. This package includes a front bumper extension with LED lighting, sharper side skirts, and matching rear skirts. Optional three-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, tinted glass, and wood-style cabin inserts are also available.

Pricing for these upgrades includes:

  • Bodykit: ¥174,900 ($1,200)
  • Wheels: ¥149,600 ($1,000)
  • Interior inserts: ¥30,800 ($210)

This allows customers to give their Aqua a more premium and sporty flair without sacrificing efficiency.
