VW Talagon Facelift : A Modernized SUV Exclusive to the Chinese Market
Volkswagen has unveiled the refreshed VW Talagon, a full-size SUV built exclusively for the Chinese market. Originally launched in early 2021, the Talagon has undergone a mid-life facelift to stay competitive and appealing to buyers in the ever-evolving SUV segment. This latest update brings significant exterior changes, with photos released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology providing a glimpse into the SUV’s new design.
Updated exterior design
The front fascia of the updated VW Talagon sports a more modern look. Thicker daytime running lights (DRLs) and a full-width LED light bar dominate the front, paired with a slimmer upper grille for a sleek aesthetic. Below, a much larger lower grille is complemented by black accents, giving the SUV a bolder presence.
For buyers seeking a sportier option, Volkswagen offers an R-branded version, featuring an R badge on the grille, a unique black lower grille with redesigned air intakes, and aggressive styling. This version also includes black pillars, a black roof, and striking silver-and-black wheels.
At the rear, the facelifted Talagon is equipped with intricately designed LED taillights, a new light bar, and revised bumpers tailored for both the standard and R models.
Dimensions and platform
Measuring between 5,143 mm (202.4 inches) and 5,168 mm (203.4 inches) in length, the VW Talagon boasts a generous 2,980 mm (117.3 inches) wheelbase. This makes it one of the largest SUVs on the MQB platform, which it shares with the VW Tiguan. The SUV is also 2,002 mm (78.8 inches) wide and 1,792 mm (70.5 inches) tall, offering ample interior space and comfort for families.
Powertrain details
The facelifted Talagon is confirmed to feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 268 hp (200 kW). While the pre-facelift model offered a 2.5-liter V6 option, it remains unclear whether this engine will return for the refreshed version.
Competitive edge in the Chinese market
The VW Talagon facelift reflects Volkswagen’s commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in the Chinese automotive market. With its enhanced design, spacious dimensions, and powerful engine options, the Talagon aims to attract buyers seeking a stylish, family-friendly SUV with modern features.
