SUPERCARS & HYPERCARS

BYD’s Off-Road Brand Just Dropped a 1,000-HP Supercar… And It’s Not What You Expect

Known for its rugged SUVs, BYD is flipping the script with its sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao. At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, the brand made a bold move—unveiling a 1,000-hp supercar and three sleek electric sedans under a new “Formula” lineup.

A 1,000-HP Supercar takes center stage

The headline act is the Formula X, an open-air electric supercar that evolves from the Super 9 concept.

It features:

  • A carbon-fiber-heavy structure with a monocage chassis
  • A futuristic two-seat “cockpit-style” interior
  • Aggressive styling with 19 functional air vents

Under the hood, it packs a tri-motor setup delivering:

  • 1,000 hp
  • 1,000 Nm of torque

While those numbers are impressive, they still sit below extreme models like the YangWang U9. Still, BYD confirmed a production version is coming in 2027, meaning this is more than just a showpiece.

Three new performance EVs join the lineup

Alongside the supercar, Fang Cheng Bao introduced three new low-slung EVs:

  • Formula S: a direct rival to the Porsche Taycan
  • Formula S GT: a shooting brake version of the S
  • Formula SL: a more premium, upscale sedan

The S and S GT share the same base, while the SL stands out with sharper design details and exclusive finishes.

Shared platform, serious Performance

All three models are built on the same advanced platform:

  • 800V architecture
  • Tri-motor AWD setup
  • Up to 1,000 hp

They also feature BYD’s DiSus-M magnetic suspension system, designed to enhance ride comfort and handling.

In terms of size, these are large, premium EVs, with over 5 meters in length and a 3.1-meter wheelbase.

A new direction for the Brand

These new models mark a major shift for Fang Cheng Bao, expanding far beyond its SUV roots.

With a launch planned for late 2026 in China, and possible exports through brands like Denza, BYD is clearly aiming to compete at the highest level.

Bottom line: BYD is no longer just playing in the EV space—it’s redefining it, blending performance, luxury, and bold design into one ambitious new lineup.
