World’s Most Expensive Ferrari F50 Sells for $9.245 Million at Auction

One of the rarest Ferrari F50s ever built has just set a world record at auction, becoming the most expensive example of the iconic supercar ever sold. Over the weekend, this 1995 Ferrari F50 crossed the block for an astonishing $9.245 million, smashing pre-auction estimates of $6.5–$7.5 million and rewriting collector car history.
This staggering price is nearly $4 million more than what most other F50s have commanded in recent years, and the reason is clear: rarity and provenance.
The Rarest of the Rare
This particular F50 is one of only 55 built to U.S. specification, but what truly makes it extraordinary is its factory color. Painted in Giallo Modena (Yellow Modena), it is one of only two examples worldwide to leave Maranello in this striking shade.

Originally delivered to fashion icon Ralph Lauren, the car became part of his world-renowned Ferrari collection. Lauren sold it in 2003, and it has remained in the careful ownership of a Virginia couple ever since. Remarkably, the car had not been seen in public since 2009, adding to its mystique.
Condition and Certification
Ahead of the auction, the car underwent a full service by Ferrari of Central Florida at the end of 2024. Key maintenance included a new fuel bladder, fresh tires, and upgraded brake components to ensure roadworthiness. Importantly, it also carries Ferrari Classiche Certification, confirming it retains all of its original components—a vital detail for serious collectors.
The odometer showed fewer than 5,400 miles (8,690 km), making this one of the lowest-mileage F50s in existence.
A Supercar With a Reputation Transformed
When new, the Ferrari F50 was sometimes overshadowed by its predecessor, the Ferrari F40, and its successor, the Ferrari Enzo. Yet in recent years, enthusiasts and collectors have re-evaluated its significance. Powered by a 4.7-liter naturally aspirated V12 derived directly from Formula 1, the F50 offers a raw and visceral driving experience unmatched by modern hypercars.
Earlier this year, the previous auction record for an F50 was set at $5.532 million for an example with just 1,351 miles. This weekend’s sale nearly doubled that figure, cementing the F50 as one of Ferrari’s most desirable and valuable supercars.
As the collector market continues to chase rare, low-mileage, factory-original Ferraris, this Giallo Modena F50 may go down as one of the most important sales of the decade.
