Hyundai Tucson 2025 : A Bold Reinvention of the Best-Selling SUV with Boxy New Design and Advanced Tech

Hyundai is preparing to radically reinvent the Tucson, its global best-seller, with the arrival of the fifth-generation family SUV. Scheduled to launch in the second half of 2025, the new Tucson adopts a completely redesigned, boxier exterior inspired by the larger Hyundai Santa Fe and influenced by the brand’s striking ‘Art of Steel’ design language.

Recent spy shots of test mules reveal a more upright and rugged stance, with a longer bonnet, chunkier wheel arches, and a robust silhouette. This move is intended to give the Tucson a stronger SUV identity, echoing Hyundai design chief Simon Loasby’s philosophy of creating models that feel like “chess pieces rather than Russian dolls.”

The transformation from the fourth to the fifth generation mirrors the evolution of the Hyundai Nexo, which was also redefined with a more capability-driven SUV character. As Loasby explained, “We deliberately wanted to turn the volume up on the SUV-ness. Around the world, customers are asking for higher seating positions, better visibility, and more presence on the road.”

The new boxier proportions are expected to provide increased interior space, with an even larger boot than the current model’s impressive 620 litres, cementing its practicality for families.

Inside, the Tucson will debut Hyundai’s next-generation cabin design. According to Loasby and Hyundai Group design boss Luc Donckerwolke, the dashboard could adopt a smaller infotainment display, more physical buttons, and simplified software aimed at reducing driver distraction and improving safety.

Under the hood, the Tucson is expected to share powertrains with the Santa Fe. Options will likely include a 1.6-litre turbo petrol hybrid delivering 212bhp with front- or all-wheel drive, and a 249bhp plug-in hybrid available exclusively with AWD.

The Tucson plays a crucial role for Hyundai in Europe, where it has become a cornerstone of the brand’s strategy to steal market share from Volkswagen, BMW, and other legacy brands. With more than 600,000 global sales in 2023 alone, the Tucson’s reinvention is designed to keep momentum strong in one of the most competitive SUV segments.

The 2025 Tucson will not only redefine Hyundai’s family SUV lineup but also showcase the brand’s ambition to combine rugged design, cutting-edge technology, and practical usability—positioning it as a serious contender against established rivals in the global SUV market.
