Mazda Unveils the All-Electric EZ-60 in China With 373 Miles of Range — Tesla Watch Out?

Mazda is charging into the Chinese EV market with the fully electric EZ-60, freshly revealed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. While the world first caught a glimpse of this sleek crossover at the Shanghai Auto Show, the focus then was on the range-extended version, which is set to launch in Europe as the Mazda CX-6e.
Now, the spotlight is on the fully electric variant, which boasts an impressive 373-mile (600 km) range based on the CLTC cycle — a figure that edges out the Tesla Model Y RWD, which offers 368 miles (593 km), though still falls short of the Model Y AWD’s claimed 447 miles (719 km) under the same test cycle.
A Familiar, Futuristic Design
Design-wise, the EZ-60 doesn’t stray far from its range-extended sibling. It features:
- Split LED lighting
- Enclosed front grille
- Flush-mounted door handles
- Digital side mirrors
- Bold body cladding for a robust SUV look
These design elements align with Mazda’s clean and premium Kodo design philosophy.
Performance & Battery Specs
According to official documents, the electric EZ-60 is powered by a 255 hp (190 kW / 258 PS) electric motor, enabling a top speed of 115 mph (185 km/h). It comes equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, known for durability and cost-efficiency, and has a curb weight of 4,806 lbs (2,180 kg).
Mazda also confirmed a rear-biased 47:53 weight distribution for the EV model, offering a more performance-oriented driving experience compared to the 50:50 setup in the hybrid version.
Early Demand and Tech-Loaded Interior
Despite the limited details so far, interest is high. Mazda has reportedly received over 18,000 pre-orders since the model’s debut. That said, it’s worth noting that these early figures may not reflect actual purchase intent — a deposit of just ¥10 (around $1.39) was enough to secure a spot on the list.
Inside, the EZ-60 promises a high-end user experience with:
- A 26.45-inch curved display
- 3D head-up display
- Built-in AI assistant
- 23-speaker premium audio system
- Zero-gravity front seats with 8 massage modes
All these features aim to place the EZ-60 among the top luxury EV offerings in its class.
The Bigger Picture
As the Chinese EV market heats up, Mazda seems determined to make its mark. With a competitive range, luxury features, and a stylish design, the EZ-60 might just be the game-changer Mazda needs to carve a serious space in the electric era.
Will it really rival Tesla in the long run? That depends on pricing, real-world range, and global expansion plans — none of which have been officially confirmed yet.
